The Black Immortality Project (TBIP) is a celebratory exploration of Black Americans' burial practices, mourning rituals, and death wisdom from the 17th Century to today. The project asks how has capitalism, white supremacy, and colonialism shaped our understanding of death and the process of dying. How can we decolonize our societal understanding of death, mourning, and remembrance? And finally, what pathways/technologies did our ancestors develop to resist colonial oppression
even as they celebrated, grieved, and mourned?
The multidisciplinary exhibition debuting at Our House Culture Center in October features Philadelphia based artists Michele Pierson and Gérardine Aldamar,
archival materials, and ephemera.

Zoë Greggs (they/them) is a visual artist, curator, and non-profit administrator. Before joining the SNF Paideia program at the University of Pennsylvania, they held positions at BlackStar Projects, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Philadelphia’s African American Museum, and the Magic Gardens. In 2024, Greggs received an Art and Change Grant award from the Leeway Foundation for The Black Immortality Project (TBIP).
Greggs was also the Curatorial Assistant for Designing Motherhood, where they brought their expertise in community engagement, project management, and art history. In addition, they co-led the Designing Motherhood Narrative Portrait project, which utilized the power of storytelling to advocate for a future where caregivers can birth with dignity, parent with autonomy, and raise babies who are healthy, growing, and thriving. Through their passion for Black feminism, critical race theory, and systems change, they strive to create processes and joyful relationships that uproot systemic harm and shift mainstream narratives about our shared history and trajectory.

Founded in 2023, the Our House Residency Program is an affordable flat-rate, short-term rental program designed for creative entrepreneurs, small businesses, and artists looking to test their concept and experience what it’s like to operate from a storefront on a main commercial corridor.
The program has served as an incubator for more than 10 local business owners, providing space to experiment, build visibility, connect with customers, and grow within the Germantown community.
